Western Armenian in the 21st Century

In January 2016, a three-day workshop in Oxford brought together leading writers, editors and publishers who think, write and publish in Western Armenian to discuss the state of their language in the twenty-first century.

The Programme of Armenian Studies was there to interview attendees about the challenges they foresee for the language, and the initiatives that may secure its vitality for future generations across the Diaspora.

The conference was organised by Armenian Studies at University of Oxford (Faculty of Oriental Studies), with the financial support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, between 21 and 23 January 2016.

Very interesting that an Italian woman could find such joy in the Armenian language and history of the language. Interesting that she notes there was no new needs to further Classical Armenian and that Modern Armenian played a role for determining Armenian citizenship.
